November 16, 2020 – November 22, 2020
I had my 30th birthday, my Dad was in the hospital for a few days, and it was a mixed bag of a week again for my mental health. This post is quite delayed since I have really been struggling with my motivation.
Bucket List Items Accomplished
- Do cross-stitch again. I made the pattern for this Daruma using an image from a Google image search and pixel-stitch.net. Daruma dolls are a popular Buddhist talisman in Japan. See Daruma doll on Wikipedia. Usually you would paint in the eye of the papier mache doll while setting an intention or goal and when the Daruma has aided you in fulfilling that goal, you would paint in the second eye, restoring its full sight.

Things I Enjoyed this Week
- I had a really gratifying hoop class this week.
- Mount Tzouhalem was especially pretty during a walk with my Mom.
- I want to continue posting the new words I find in the wild from books or podcasts.
- Yenta – Yiddish slang for a gossip or a busybody
- I watched Schindler’s List for the first time. I continue my very protracted quest to watch all of the Oscar Best Picture Winners.
- I taught myself no new constellations this week.

Meal Prep and New Recipes Tried
I made a couple international breakfast recipes this week and a big pot of stew.
- Apfelpfannkuchen (German apple pancakes) from Emmi Kocht Einfach. I just used the Google translate function on the page to translate it from German. It was easy to follow and turned out wonderfully.
- Princessa (Bulgarian toasted ground meat sandwich) from Craft Beering.
- Kimchi Jjigae from Maangchi with tofu.
Updates
I was treated to several delicious meals out by beloved friends, family, and myself.
I went out to Cowichan Bay to look at the masses of sea lions that have taken over the small dock for the annual salmon spawn. Their barks are so loud and deep and carry amazingly well over long distances on the water.

Happy belated birthday! I hope your dad is on the mend. It sounds like it’s been a rough time but it’s great that you can still look back on some of the best bits from it 🙂
