2020: Week 4

January 20, 2020 – January 26, 2020

Bucket List Items Accomplished

  • Celebrated Robbie Burns day and finally got to try haggis. They did a traditional toast to the haggis and had pipers. It was stodgy and quite tasty.
  • Made a sourdough starter. I followed Joshua Weissman’s YouTube video over the week. See below for some awesome recipes I tried.

Things I Enjoyed this Week

  • Went to the It’s Just Drag show at the Royal Theatre. Everyone’s performances were amazing. So many creative mashups, high energy dance numbers, and references perfect for the crowd. Seeing Brooke Lynn Heights, Monet X Change, and Crystal from Drag Race was such a treat. The locals were incredible too though. My favourite numbers of the night were from Persi Flage of Victoria, and Continental Breakfast and PM from the Darlings of Vancouver.
  • Went to Chinatown for the Lunar New Year celebration. The lion dance was great.

Meal Prep and New Recipes Tried

Here’s what I made over the weekend for the upcoming week.

  • I used the Sourdough Starter I started last week to make No Knead Beginner Sourdough Bread. Both are from Joshua Weissman’s YouTube channel. I’m amazed at how much rise they had. I have a couple little adjustments to make for next time, but was really happy with how they turned out.
  • I used some of the discard from making my sourdough starter to make Sourdough Pancakes. They were the most delicious pancakes I have ever made. The sourdough adds a nice depth of flavour. They were nice and airy on the outside with a pleasant browning and slight crust on the outside. Perfection. This recipe is also from Joshua Weissman.
  • I made a White Bean Dip with Garlic and Rosemary that I’ll be having with some Ajvar on sandwiches for lunch this week.

Updates

  • I’m participating in an Uber Frugal Month with the Frugalwoods. I did terribly with my discretional spending this week. I bought plane tickets for a trip to Japan. I also spent a fair bit on groceries and going out for Robbie Burns. I will still finish the month with a low total spending amount though.
  • I did a couple extra sessions on the weekend to catch up with 30 Days of Yoga with Adrienne. Should be able to finish the 30 days by the end of January.
